Mumbai : Baisakhi or Vaisakhi is the annual harvest festival, which also marks the beginning of the Sikh New Year. The day is observed in Punjab and Northern Sikh-dominating states and is celebrated with utmost gusto. Bollywood celebrity, Vaarun Bhagat recalls his childhood memories of Baisakhi; adds how things have changed over the years.

When he was a child, Baisakhi was a time of unparalleled joy for actor Vaarun Bhagat. “As a family, we’d look forward to the festival as it meant the entire family and friends getting together to start the new year on a positive note. Aur excitement bhi kaafi rehti thi yeh soch ke ki paise aayenge aur parents se jo chahiye woh maang sakenge,” shares the Undekhi actor.

A lot has changed as he moved on to carve a niche in the film industries: “[Now] my family lives in Delhi, and I live in Mumbai. And on Baisakhi, I miss spending time with them a little too much. In fact, my most cherished memory of the festival is from a few years back, when my whole family was together. It was very intimate and chill. We wanted to celebrate the time of harvest and new beginnings, so we all got together, ate a lot of gajar halwa, poori, danced, did gidda and and what not”

The actor also added, “I think earlier it would have been way too grand with lots of people and family, but now festivities in general have become more intimate, especially after going through covid.”

We wish everyone a very happy Baisakhi and New Year!
