Mumbai news, 25 April 2021 : Toofaan Mail is chosen as the opening film at the Belgrade Theatre for UK Asian Film Festival. Based on a fascinating real life incident from the 70s this is actor Akriti Singh’s directorial debut.

The film was already in news because of the uniqueness of its production. It is a public funded project.

In its 23rd year now, UK Asian Film Festival is the longest running Asian Film event outside India.

Akriti has acted in a number of shows and films – Broken But Beautiful, Breathe, Kamyaab, Photograph etc. She also runs a theatre company which is young but prolific. She has written and directed around 14 plays.

About the premiere at the popular UK festival Akriti says, “It’s heartening that the film has received so much love from all who’ve watched it, just like the curators of UK Asian Film Festival 2021. The screening of the festival, whose theme is ‘Ray of Hope’ opens with our film at the Belgrade Theatre on May 27. I am looking forward to the audience’s reaction. Wish me luck

While she is excited that the film will be screened in the UK, she’s not sure if she’ll be able to be there, given the current scenario. “I will be attending a question-answer session post the online screening. If travel restrictions are uplifted, I might attend the festival in person.”
