Mumbai : Director Manpreet Singh Dhami bares it all as he talks about the uphill battle to bring his ambitious film His Story of Itihaas to life. Produced by Dhami under his banner Panchkarma Films, the project is a bold, thought-provoking tale that many found too gutsy to take on, until veteran actor Subodh Bhave stepped in.
The film tells the story of a humble physics teacher who stumbles upon falsehoods in his daughter’s school history textbook. What follows is a gripping battle against the academic and political establishment, as he uncovers a buried truth that could alter the course of the nation’s past — and its future.

Speaking about his journey, Manpreet Singh Dhami shares, “This film is not just a script – it’s a mission I’ve lived with for years. I approached more than 50 actors for the lead role, and every one of them turned me down or didn’t show any interest. Most of them said no because of their own ideological leanings. Others, who even liked the script, were scared as they said the story was too controversial or intense and can put their career at risk. Only a few truly believed in the project. But I wasn’t going to compromise on my vision.”

He goes on to share how destiny aligned when he met Subodh Bhave. “The moment I narrated the script to Subodh sir, he looked at me and said, ‘Chal karte hai, let’s do this.’ That instant belief meant the world to me. And now, after watching what he’s brought to the screen, I can say with complete certainty – no one else could have done it better. He is the heart of this film.”

Subodh Bhave shares, “The moment Manpreet narrated the script, I was stunned by its honesty and courage. I didn’t even hesitate and simply said, ‘Let’s do this.’ It’s rare to come across a story that challenges the system while also being deeply emotional. Playing this character wasn’t just about performance, it was about purpose. I knew I had to be part of it. Once audiences watch the film, they’ll understand why this story needed to be told.”
His Story of Itihaas also stars Akansha Pandey, Kisha Arora, Ankul Vikal, and Yogendra Tikku. Manpreet Singh Dhami has spent over four years researching and developing the story before going to shoot. The poster and trailer were recently unveiled and reflect the film’s intense narrative which is a burning history book, layered with shadows of protest, truth, and rebellion.
