New Delhi, 13th August 2020 : The New Education Policy 2020 has been passed and approved by Union Cabinet after a long gap of 34 years. Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javedkar and Human Resource Development Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal together announced the NEP 2020. The main aim of the NEP 2020 is to make the Education System of India globally recognized with more transparency. It’s been planned that the New Education Policy will come in implementation when the new academic session will start in the month of September and October. But what is NEP and how does it will bring big changes in the education system. New Education Policy is a comprehensive framework for the great developments in the Education system.

In schools, the education policy will be focusing on the mending the curriculum, there will be reformed board exams, reduction in the syllabus, and from now onwards educational institutes will be more experimental with students in terms of teaching them new subjects like music, gardening, technology and some special lectures. The 10+2 structure of education will be now changing to the “5+3+3+4” structure with the age group category of 3-8 years (foundational stage), 8-11 (preparatory), 11-14 (middle),14-18 (secondary stage). Another mend in the policy is the students till class 5th will be taught in their mother tongue or regional language, all though this is not compulsory for English medium institutes. Whereas in colleges, the NEP proposes the replacement of UGC and AICTE with the “Higher Education Commission of India” that will be counted as a single functioning body for entire higher education excluding medical and legal education sectors. Now the Indian Higher Education Institutions can be set up in foreign countries, the four years multidisciplinary the undergraduate program will be reinforced with multiple exit options, discontinuation of the M Phil program, there will be flexibility given to institutes to offer different designs for Master Programmes.

Gopalan Anish Acharya, Founder of Medveda Pvt Ltd said; Education is the weapon that you can use to change the world around you, and it will be more powerful when there’s a huge and constant development in our education policies. There was a time when we use to think that book knowledge is the best knowledge for us but no perspective has been changed. Now everyone is urge on getting the practical exposure for their future. In the New Education Policy, there are many new ideas that have been incorporated to make our country’s education system more flexible and integrated. One of the most important points in this new policy is to class 5th teaching that will be done in regional language. Also, there will be full flexibility in schools for choosing the subject they want to take up. Also, there will be an additional subject about music, sports, technology and will not be considered as an extra curriculum. Now in schools, more importance will be given to internships. School students are free to join the internships of their choice of field. This policy has not only implemented for academic institutes but also for higher education as well. Now India got a chance to set their institutes in foreign countries, this is a great opportunity for Indian students. Also, there will be 6 percent of the GDP that will be contributed to the education system. This multidisciplinary approach that has been introduced is much needed and also beneficial for college students. Let’s hope the implementation takes place soon and brings some great developments in our education system.
