Faridabad News, 26 Feb 2021 : National E- CONCLAVE on National Education Policy 2020 : Transforming the Culture of Assessment Pattern“If there is one thing to be reformed in education, it is the examination system” recommended the Radhakrishnan Commission. Over the time India has moved from examination to evaluation and now to assessment. The New Education Policy 2020 emphasizes on transforming assessment for optimizing learning and development of all students. To understand the practitioner’s perspective on assessment, DAV Institute of Management, Faridabad organised National E- CONCLAVE on National Education Policy 2020: Transforming the Culture of Assessment Pattern on 26th February, 2021.

As a tradition of DAV, the session began with the chanting of the Gayatri Mantra. Ms. Kanika Duggal welcomed Sh. Ved Prakash, Vice -President (DAVCMC), former Chairman (UGC), Ms. Ritu Singh Sharma, Joint Secretary, CBSE, Dr. Sanjeev Sharma, Principal Director, DAVIM, Dr. Ritu Gandhi Arora, Vice Principal and all the esteemed Speakers of the day. The Guest of honour was Dr. Rama, Principal, Hansraj College, Delhi University. The session had a galaxy of erudite speakers which included Ms. Anuja Sharma, Principal, DAV Model School Chandigarh, Ms. Sarika Rahul Chopra, Head, St. Xavier’s High School, Gurugram, Mrs. Jayashree Khandekar, Principal, DAV Rao Harishchandra Arya Public School, Nagpur, Dr. Amlan Saha, Principal, The Sagar School, Rajasthan, Ms. Jyoti Sharma, Principal, Greenwood Public School, Gurugram, Ms. Sravani Rao, Vice- Principal, DPS International Saket, Delhi, Ms. Jyoti Dhaiya, Principal, DAV School NH-3, NIT, Faridabad, Mrs. Rupa Chakarvarty, Director, Suncity School, Gurugram.
IRS Ritu Sharma, Joint Secretary, CBSE acknowledged that the present Board Examinations have become high stakes with a lot of emphasis on marks. She highlighted the steps CBSE is taking to change this. Shri Ved Prakash ji explained that NEP-2020 focuses on – regular, formative and competency-based assessment, promoting learning and development of students and testing higher-order skills-analysis, critical thinking and conceptual clarity. The goal of NEP-2020 is to transform the culture of assessment.

The speakers mentioned that the pattern of examination has remained unchanged for a very long time. The main aim for students has become getting good marks. Society too gives preferential treatment to those who attain high marks. They opined that it is time that the main aim of examination should shift towards all-round development of students and stated that assessment should facilitate attainment of competencies specified in terms of learning outcomes in a holistic manner during teaching learning process. The session was very engaging and the queries of the audience were duly taken up by the speakers.

The session was concluded by calling on all stakeholders to work together for the successful implementation of NEP-2020 to fulfill the aspirations of 260 million students, their parents, teachers and the school system.
